It May Be Winter Outside (But In My Heart It’s Spring)

8 Mar

Even though Montreal doesn’t really look like it’s ready for Spring (we still have snow over here…), we sure are ready. Ready to shop and wear skirts that is.

It’s now my turn to make a list of my spring staples.

Because I have red hair, I tend to stay away from pastels. Vibrant red and pastels hurt my eyes. I’m doing my best to spare yours from hurting too.

For Spring, I am drawn towards earth tones and neutrals – and killer accessories, but this is a year long thing…

My Shopping List

This is a perfect weekend outfit to hang out with friends, go to the park or shopping. Can’t wait for spring to arrive and start baring a little skin (other than my cheeks…).

Oh! And this is the perfect night out outfit.

Oh Spring. Please come early. We all miss you so.

She Wore Blue (red) Velvet…

4 Feb

I have a confession to make. I am totally obsessed with velvet. Yes, velvet is back. It has left the nightmares of my 90s childhood (where my mom would dress my sister and I in matching green et red christmas velvet dresses) and is now back to haunt me again. Only this time, I am DREAMING of velvet.

I like it on couches, I like it on shoes and most of all, I like it on clothes. Because velvet is very much like leopard print (NEVER wear more than one velvet/leopard print piece at once), this means I have to make a choice. For me the choice is clear; Velvet dress FTW!

I think it all started with this Old Hollywood style black velvet dress, this little casual plum velvet dress and an awesome vintage black velvet skirt we  put up for sale in the boutique. Brought back the memories… ahh! Sweet 90s!

This is the kind of peter pan dress my mother made me wear as a kid. Might be cool now, but I won’t ever wear again – due to trauma. (Just kidding mom!)

This year I’m gonna spend Valentine’s day in a little chalet, with family, probably playing board games near the fireplace (ahhhh God, I can’t wait!), but otherwise, I would definitely be planning on wearing red velvet out in a nice restaurant. Velvet is such a luscious fabric!

Look at this beautiful one from NastyGal, to be paired with a black bowler hat to complete the look with a little bit of edge.

Well, I guess I don’t necessarily have to resign myself… I just need to find the perfect little casual velvet dress and pair it with boots and a denim vest. What do you think?

Yep! It’s out! OMAM’s new video for the wonderful King and Lionheart from their album My Head is an Animal.

I have been listening to that album for quite a while now, and probably just like you, I’m never getting tired of it. And since today is as F-REEZING (!) as if we were in ICEland, it is oh so appropriate to post a little something about them!

I just looove how stylish they are! If you too wanna  look as good as Nanna, here’s a little fashion inspiration for you!

The thighs and this incredible coat are from ModCloth. Maybe not that warm but hey, spring will come! (let’s hope)

Flat leather boots are from Aldo, the knitted scarf (OMG cute overload) is from Etsy, so is the knitted coin purse (at least your coins will be warm even if you’re not in your superb ModCloth coat.)

And since Nanna says she can’t go through her day without a hat, here’s my pick from Village Hat Shop, 100% wool.

Cold Wave = Fur Fever

24 Jan

We are going through a serious cold wave here in Montreal.

COLD!

For those of you who wouldn’t be familiar with Celsius, yesterday was between -24F and – 44F. Brrrrr. And today is not that better… Currently it is -33C (-27F) in sunny Montreal.

This is what the city looked like yesterday morning:

I am telling you. It is CRAZY cold. The kind of cold that makes your contacts freeze on your eyeballs. Not cool, people, not cool.

This weather makes me crave for furry things. All kinds of furry, soft and warm things.

I’ve been shopping for winterwear in hope to keep me warm. These look so cozy:

If it wasn’t so damn cold, I’d be running to Anthro right about now. Not sure I can survive to a 5 minutes walk at -35C though.
